There is quite a bit of growth going on in the truck driving industry of Oklahoma, which may benefit you as you look for the right job for you. From 2012 through 2022, job openings for Oklahoma truck drivers are expected to increase by 12% (O*Net, 2012). You may be able to earn a lucrative salary as an Oklahoma truck driver. Currently, the average salary for an Oklahoma tractor-trailer driver is $37,900 per year (O*Net, 2014). If you live in an area where there is a significant driver shortage, you may even be able to earn bonuses for your safe driving and hard work.

A lot of big-name trucking companies are set up in Oklahoma, possibly giving you a variety of job openings to consider as you begin your job search. Some of these companies only hire Class A drivers, while others may also hire Class B drivers. Major employers include Groendyke Transport, Earl L. Henderson Trucking, CRST Expedited, and C.R. England. If you are attending truck driving school, read job postings closely—some of these companies offer tuition reimbursement for recent trucking school graduates.

Before you apply for your commercial driver’s license, you may want to consider trucking school.
