Georgia has a more stringent commercial driver's licensing process than many other states. First, you must complete a state-approved truck driving training course. The Georgia Department of Driver Services offers a list of approved driving schools. Once you complete your training, you can go to your local Department of Driver Services office and take your written exam. Passing the written exam allows you to take the skills test and get your driver's license.

Your training program should give you a wide range of experience and knowledge. Many of the skills learned are required for over-the-road drivers, including loading a truck, unloading a truck, keeping a log of your miles, and adhering to driving laws and standards. However, many people consider the behind-the-wheel training the most valuable part of your training. Learning how to drive on various roads and in different conditions can help you quite a bit when you are driving in different states.
