Improving Your Chances For Trucking Scholarships

Many scholarship programs are very competitive. Being prepared ahead of time can help you boost your chances and do everything you can to earn money for school. Use these tips as you apply for trucking scholarships, both locally and nationally:

  • Fill out the FAFSA. The Free Application for Federal Student Aid determines your eligibility for federal funds. Many scholarship and grant programs require you to have a FAFSA on file before you can be considered. You can typically file your FAFSA each January for the upcoming school year.
  • Be clear about your goals. If you have to write an essay for your scholarship applications, you want to make it clear that you are in this “for the long haul.” Think about what a career in trucking could do for you, for your family, and for the industry.
  • Apply early. Though you can wait until the last minute to apply, that’s not a great use of your time. Instead, apply as early as you can. This gives you time to consider your essay and make it as strong as possible before you submit it.
